Seed Propagation

Print,PDF and Email

The existing mature and old tea plantations in the commercial gardens consist mostly of seed grown plants. Conservation of variable tea germplasm in the form of seeds has assumed considerable importance owing to the indiscriminate uprooting of old seed grown plantations. Interest in seed propagation has revived after the release of bi-clonal tea seed stocks by the Tea Research Institutes in different countries.Propagation by tea seeds are preferred over the cuttings due to their wider adaptability and also because comparatively less care and maintenance is required for bringing up such plants.
