Vegetative Propagation (V.P)

Tea plants on commercial scale are nowadays mostly propagated vegetatively by single node leaf cutting or single leaf internode cutting. Vegetative propagation of tea from cuttings was first demonstrated by Tunstall (1931) at Tocklai Experimental Station. Assam, India. The cutting consisting of a single leaf and the associated piece of internode on current year’s growth roots well and this method is used now in all tea growing countries for commercial multiplication of the tea plant.
